For all girls out there struggling with a thick, unmanageable lions-mane.

We all have those days where our hair needs some extra TLC, whether it's a deep-condition, a new hair product or a new style, as girls with big hair we love to make our curls look extra special once in a while.

Below, I have listed some of my favourite products to help my bushy, dry, curly hair softer and a lot more tamed.

Shampoo

The first thing I would recommend is to use sulphate and paraben free products. This is due to the silicones within the products stripping hair of their natural oils. One of my favourite shampoos to keep my hair hydrated would have to be the Palmers Coconut Oil conditioning shampoo. The formula is so creamy and enriched with coconut and monoi oil which therefore makes my curls feel really soft and moisturised. Also it smells unreal, even though the coconut is quite strong it is not overpowering. Honestly it does have to be one of my favourite shampoos.

Secondly, I love to have extremely thick, bouncy hair. Therefore I use OGX thick and full, biotin and collagen shampoo. I have noticed less fall-out since using this shampoo and my hair is a lot more smooth and sleek. I love how my hair appears fuller and more volumised too.

Deep conditioner

I'm a sucker for those £1.99 deep conditioners from Superdrug. Each time I go in I buy a different one just to test them out on my hair. However one of my favourites would have to be Creme of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Treatment Sachet. Even though this product is made for afro-hair I love the way it makes my hair feel. After I use it, my hair feels revitalised, stronger and more protected against damage. It also makes my hair easier to brush due to the thickness and intense moisture of the product.

I also love the brand Mane n' Tail, originally made for horses then adapted to be used on human hair. One of my favourite products by them would have to be the Gentle Replenishing Conditioner. It genuinely helps to nourish and protect my scalp against excess build up. My hair always smells really nice and feels soft after used. However, the only disadvantage I would say about this product is that the conditioner is a little bit thin, if like me you prefer a thicker conditioner, this product most likely isn't the one for you.

Oil

I usually use two pumps of oil on my hair and it is never left feeling greasy or weighed down. Oil is an essential for my dry, curly hair as it defines curls and makes the hair less frizzy overall.

My go-to oil would have to be the John Frieda Frizz Ease Extra Strength 6 Effects Serum. The oil isn't too greasy or sticky and has a very subtle smell. It completely tames frizz and eliminates fly-away hairs. I love the way my hair looks after I've used this product, it always appears thicker, less brittle and definitely has less fallout. It is also very soft and definitely makes my curls more defined.

I also really like the L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil. With this product, I would say a little goes a long way as it is a lot more oily in consistency compared to the John Frieda Frizz Ease serum. My hair always feels more nourished after using this and appears to be more shiny. I love the way it smells too as it is enriched with six flower extracts. My hair always appears to be smoother and tamed after-use.

Spray

After using one of my oils, I use the Superdrug own brand active hair leave in conditioner. I personally love this product, it does have a strong perfumed smell however, I really like it. The leave in conditioner does make my hair feel softer and more hydrated. It helps to detangle my hair too making it more manageable to brush and tames all my fly aways. It is a really good product and priced at £2.99 it's even better!

My curly hair holy grail product would have to be the John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Daily Styling Spray. It makes my hair so bouncy and curls appear thicker and more defined. Due to it's alcohol-free formula hair is never left feeling crispy but instead super soft and hydrated. My frizz is always reduced after using this product. This has to be one of my favourite sprays for curly hair as it does not feel sticky or weighed down with use.

Finally, I love the Tresemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Spray. I always blow-dry my hair with a diffuser after I've washed it and I feel like this spray makes my hair a lot more smooth and protected from damage. Less is also more with this spray, I always use two to three pumps after I have used the active hair leave in conditioner, if I use more than this my hair does feel quite weighed down. As it has keratin in it too, I usually find that my hair lasts up to 72 hours without frizz. Also, my hair has more shine since using this product.

After I have sprayed my hair with the products from above, I love to diffuse my hair. I love the way my curls look after I have blow-dried them, as they are more bouncy from using the diffuser. My favourite thing to do is wash my hair during the evening, then diffuse my hair before bed, sleep on my slightly damp hair then diffuse again in the morning. My curls are extremely nice after doing this and are definitely more defined.

I love all the products that I have mentioned above however the best products for me would have to be the Frizz Ease range. They are specialised for curly hair and do make it softer, detangled and more manageable!

New product alert!

A new product that I have only just recently started to use is the define and shire hair custard by Cantu, I use this when I'm still in the shower and apply to soaking wet hair after I have deep conditioned it. It has a thick, custard-like consistency and does smell really good. My curls also do appear more spiralled and less bushy but curl sprays are definitely more my thing.

Since using sulphate-free products my hair does appear to be less frizzy, more moisturised and healthy. My curls also feel bouncy and thicker, what more could a curly girl want?
